When a communications medium is made obsolete by newer technology, it becomes an art form. In the days of Homer, poetry was a communications medium. Today it is an art form. In the days of Da Vinci, oil painting was a communications medium. Now it, too, is an art form. The printed word is being made obsolete by the computer industry. Soon, it too, will be an art form. Don't wait for your business to become an art form.

Web Guide to Virginia City Nevada, once the richest place on earth, now the most historic place on earth. www.vcnevada.com

This site uses mostly black and white photographs. The grayscale images lend themselves to the "historic" aspect of this site. There is a nice art gallery at the Piper's Opera House section.

Lady M's Mystery International, the web site for mystery lovers. www.mysteryinternational.com

This site uses classical 3d effects, like embossing and shadowing for the classical "web" look. The site requires a password to read most of the fiction. All the password code was write in Visual Basic using the ASP pages of Internet Information Server. The credit card page is encrypted using SSL so that the customers information is kept secure. The system uses a simple e-mail message notification for credit cards rather than an automated CyberCash type setup to keep costs down. The e-mail is kept encrypted using Pretty Good Privacy. This site is a good example of the type of costume application possible with ASP page database programming, where the customer's information is stored in an Access database or a SQL database.
Custom database web programming is perfect for anyone who keeps data in an Access database in their office but wants to make this data available to customers or outside sales personnel over the web.

Piano Music from the turn of the century at www.goodoldsongs.com.

This is a fun site with music on every page. Music is a challenge on the web because of the size of the file. Regular music requires compression and decoder/players. With Squeek's page, her music is all piano music and can be played on a midi sound card. The typical sound card has a decent piano sound so the music - converted to midi in Squeek's lab - sounds just like the real thing. The site is a great source of old time music played on piano. As a side, Squeek can also convert other peoples music to midi.

Preservation Nevada
www.preservationnevada.org

This web site is a central source for anyone interested in historic preservation in the State of Nevada. It has a nice graphical look, using the "flat" approach similar to a full color magazine. None of the 3d "effects" typical of web graphics are used, giving the site a more "artistic" look. It is always important when designing a web site to keep the particular audience in mind so that the "proper" look can be developed.

Piper's Opera House
www.pipersoperahouse.org

This site has some nice photographs. In spite of the new web graphics technologies, photography still holds its own. Piper's Opera House, an historic proscenium stage theater in Virginia City, Nevada, is a great subject for black and white photos.
